The business was founded in 1956 by William Nickelson who purchased an existing tree
farm planted with Scotch pine.
In 1957, a half pound of seed was planted
because William could find no reliable
source of tree seedlings. Thus, Needlefast Evergreens was born.
Jim and Nancy, second generation, came into
the business in the 1970's and now manage
the operation. They take pride in
their trees and the knowledge gained over 50
years of the operation.
Active members of the National Christmas
Tree Association, Michigan Christmas Tree
Association and Michigan Seedling Growers
Association.
Needlefast works closely with Bob Giradin,
publisher of "Exotic Conifer News" (willowpondfarm.com).
Bob is studying the growth and potential of
"exotic" conifers for use as Christmas
trees.
Nancy and husband, Jim Pakulak, also
extract seed from native Lake States
conifers and sell that seed through their
business, Pakulak Seed and Nursery Company. |
